USDA Certified Biobased Product Label

Barnhardt Manufacturing Company has exciting news regarding its HyDri™ Cotton: the product has earned the USDA Certified Biobased product label. But what does that label indicate?

The label verifies that the product’s amount of renewable biobased ingredients meets or exceeds the levels set by the USDA. Biobased products are finished or intermediate materials composed in whole or in significant part of agricultural, forestry, or marine ingredients.

The Buzz Around HyDri™ Continues To Build

HyDri™ Cotton’s ability to let moisture pass through nonwoven fabrics while remaining dry to the touch has been well-documented here. As if the superior performance and natural comfort the product provides wasn’t enough, the new label grants HyDri™ even more credibility.

Our own Chuck Allen, the Director of Product Development, is excited to add the new label to one of Barnhardt’s most popular products.

“This label will allow our HyDri™ cotton to be immediately identified as a USDA Certified BioPreferred product,” he said.

Chuck—like the rest of us—knows that having the USDA’s blessing goes a long way in garnering more trust with consumers. All biobased amount claims are verified by independent labs and monitored by the USDA. With the addition of the label, consumers can feel secure in the accuracy of the biobased amount, and be empowered in making (truly) informed purchasing decisions.

Getting On Board With BioPreferred

The USDA BioPreferred program was formed by the Farm Security and Rural Investment Act of 2002 (the “2002 Farm Bill”). Later, this was expanded by the Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008 (the “2008 Farm Bill”). Designed to keep increasing the purchase and use of biobased products, the United States Department of Agriculture manages the program and identifies products that meet the strict requirements.

While we’re thrilled with the new designation, it’s also nice to know that the feeling is mutual:

“We are proud that Barnhardt Manufacturing Company has earned the USDA Certified Biobased Product Label,” said Ron Buckhalt, USDA BioPreferred Program Manager. “Biobased products add value to renewable agriculture commodities, create jobs in rural communities and help our nation decrease its reliance on foreign-sourced and non-renewable petroleum.”

Honestly, we couldn’t have said it any better ourselves.
